How to get into college for free...Yes, it is possible!

If you've looked at the cost of college these days, it's almost certain that the thought of how to pay for it has crossed your mind as well. Maybe the cost itself is even a barrier or deterrent for you attending the college of your choice. Well, this hub is being written to clear up any confusion that is more than likely splashed all over the internet about how to get into college for free! Most of the advice out there is absolute garbage and is largely inaccurate. Below are some legitimate options on how to get into college for free, so take a look...

Scholarships for Athletes

Are you involved in high school sports? Are you pretty good at your sport? Most colleges across the nation are allotted a number of scholarships that will pay your tuition IN FULL if you decide to attend their school. Also, many of these "full ride scholarships" include expenses like books, meals, room and board and also money to spend at your leisure. Athletic scholarships require that you are in good standing at the college or university, and that you maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA). Basically, those are the only requirements!

However, as you may or may not know, athletic scholarships are somewhat difficult to attain. There are many high school athletes across the country and only a select few are offered a scholarship to play at the collegiate level. When talking in terms of how to get into college for free, athletic scholarships are a viable option if you are an exceptional athlete and also have good enough grades and test scores to be eligible through the NCAA Clearinghouse. Keep that in mind!

Our advice to you would be to put together a "highlight" tape of the specific sport you excel in and send it out to numerous prospective colleges to showcase your talents. Many of these colleges and universities won't come and see you in person unless they get a "preview" of what you have to offer! It would also be a good idea to include your GPA and test scores with that highlight tape so that they know you will be in good standing.

Scholarships for Academics

How to get into college for free using your academic prowess is a different ballgame altogether! Many colleges offer "merit based" scholarships that, many times, pay your tuition in full! They are renewable by year as long as you earn a minimum GPA that is specified within that specific scholarship. Some may have other requirements to meet, but in general, you need to maintain good grades to continue to receive the scholarship money.

So how do you go about getting an academic scholarship? There are a few ways, but the most common is by applying to the college and letting THEM tell you if you've done well enough to earn a full scholarship or discounted tuition. When you apply, they will automatically consider you for any type of scholarship or incentive for you to commit to their school. When they send you an acceptance letter, it will also include what type of scholarship you've qualified for, how much it's worth, and if it's renewable or not.

If you've done exceptionally well in high school and stand out above the majority of other applicants, you will have a great shot at getting a merit based scholarship. Keep in mind though, these types of full academic scholarships are few and far between, so do everything you can to get the best grades and scores possible!

Other ways of getting an academic scholarship include employer programs (from your parent's place of work), corporate sponsorship, National Scholarships that can be found on ScholarshipPoints, and through the National Merit Scholarship Program to name a few.

The most important aspect of figuring out how to get into college for free is that you have to be exceptional! There are literally thousands of students looking for scholarship opportunities and any kind of aide in paying tuition. If you aren't exceptional at either athletics or in the classroom, you stand a very low chance of getting a fully paid scholarship. Even though you may be a great student, athlete or both, there just isn't "free college" for everyone. That's just the reality of it.

Although there may be other ways, Athletic Scholarships and merit-based Academic Scholarships top the list of the most common ways on how to get into college for free!
